The Boston Museum Project was given the green light to build a 125,000-sf, $70-million facility on the site by the turnpike authority Wednesday, just one month after the YMCA told turnpike officials it was dropping plans to build on the parcel because of rising construction costs.
The Boston Museum Project, which plans to build a museum that will focus on the last 200 years of the state's history, has already commissioned architect Moshe Safdie of Somerville to design an elongated, curved building reminiscent of a ship's hull on the property. The site would also include a park. No date for construction of the museum has been set.
