SOUTH AMBOY, NJ-Baker Residential has started site work for Beacon Pointe, a multifamily residential complex here. The project will consist of a combination of 40 townhomes and condos, which will be ready for occupancy in about a year.

The project is the Pleasantville, NY-based Baker's third in this Middlesex County community, and its first in the city's downtown area. The company's earlier projects, Lighthouse Bay and Harbor Village at Lighthouse Bay, are both on the city's Raritan Bay waterfront.

"We have worked diligently with the city during the development programs for each of these communities to create a public/private partnership that is sensitive to the city's position as a waterfront community, and that addresses its residential needs," says Ken Wilson, vice president of Baker Residential.

Beacon Pointe will consist of three-story, Georgian-style buildings near this city's NJ Transit rail station, in line with the state's transit village program. The cost of the project has not been released.
