BOSTON-The Cask 'n Flagon, a corner bar that has been across from Fenway Park for more than 35 years, has applied to the city for permission to make multimillion dollar improvements. Plans include creating a wraparound outdoor patio and what could be the city's largest rooftop lounge.

The proposed renovation project, to be constructed atop the watering hole's Lansdown Street and Brookline Avenue location, would allow 440 fans atop the roof deck to hear the game and possibly catch a home-run ball. "It's a huge expansion," Daniel F. Pokaski, chairman of the city's licensing board tells GlobeSt.com. "They're not only expanding on the roof deck but their dining area and function halls. They're looking to go from about 400 people to about 1,200."

Pokaski says one of the main concerns, however, is the effect a roof deck--and the throng of Red Sox fans on it during home games--would have on the neighborhood. "The concerns with the roof deck are obvious. We don't need people throwing things off the roof or falling off the roof. We're going to keep an open mind about it but I think (the owner) has a selling job to do."

Cask 'n Flagon owner, Dana Van Fleet, could not be reached by GlobeSt.com for comment. Pokaski says a hearing on the matter will be held Nov. 30 with a decision expected by the next day.
