"We look at a number of properties and evaluate them for a number of opportunities but because the deadline is a ways away we have no comment on it (but) it's a very interesting building," a spokeswoman for the firm tells GlobeSt.com. Cincinnati-based Federated Department Stores Inc., which took control of the property after its $17 billion merger with Filene's parent company, May Department Stores, has said it will sell-off the property, which is located across the street from a Macy's, which Federated also owns. A deadline for submitting bids on the building is tentatively scheduled for December 1.
The Back Bay firm has developed several mixed-use projects in the Boston area, including Dorchester's $65-million South Bay Center and the Mecca shopping plaza in Roxbury's Grove Hall. The firm also is developing two projects in the Fenway neighborhood of the city.
Located at the corner of Washington and Winter streets in Downtown Crossing, the building is currently occupied by Filene's, which has been in the property since 1912, and Filene's Basement, which has a long-term lease on its space. The building also houses the administrative offices for Filene's/Kauffman's.
