Officials with Belfonti Associates of Hamden, CT say the city chose the site at 111-119 West Main St. because of the quality of the building and the property's proximity to City Hall and the Mayor's office at the Chase Municipal Building at 236 Grand St. The city will be able to use its existing parking space at City Hall while renovations are under way.

City government will be taking space on the first and second floors of the center and west wings of the building. The deal comes eight months after the city's lead economic development agency, Waterbury Development Corp. joined the building's tenant roster. Other major tenants include the regional offices of Sovereign Bank and Glenwood Systems Inc. The building is owned by Waterbury Commons LLC a partnership between an entity of Belfonti and Gessler Development. The partnership also owns Croft Commons, a 95,000-sf office building at 95 Scovill St.

Precision Realty Management, Inc., a Gessler-related company is the property manager at Waterbury Commons. MCR Property Management, Inc., a Belfonti affiliate, is the asset manager of the property.
