The city's most recent appraisal of the property, which includes a 12,100-sf site zoned RS-3, is $816,000. However, no minimum price has been set for the 53-year-old, three-story building.

Among the uses the city would like to see at the southwest corner of Sawyer and Altgeld avenues include day care or social service centers. Proposals are due Jan. 12. The department of planning and development says proposals from for-profit developers will be rejected.
