BOSTON-Several national retailers will move into South Bay Plaza next year when a $40-million, 100,000-sf expansion is completed. Elizabeth Furnelli, vice president of Northeast development for Edens & Avant, which owns the plaza, tells GlobeSt.com that a Bank of America center will open this month followed by Famous Footwear, which opens in the spring. Two restaurants--Applebees and Olive Garden--are scheduled to open next summer.

The expansion project began about two years ago after Edens & Avant acquired an eight-acre industrial parcel along Massachusetts Avenue adjacent to the 46-acre center. The site is located between Massachusetts Avenue, Allstate Road and Southampton Street adjacent to the Southeast Expressway on the border of South Boston, Dorchester and Roxbury. Once completed, the center will total 540,000 sf. The tenants will include new additions Circuit City and Bed Bath and Beyond along with Stop & Shop, Target, Home Depot, Toys 'R' Us, Marshalls and Staples.
