Jeffrey T. Karam, finance director for Fall River-based First Bristol Corp., which bought the property in partnership with Old Bayside Partners LLC of Boston, tells GlobeSt.com of the joint venture's plans call for the 155-room hotel to be gutted and renovated in the next six months. "Basically, all that will be left is the shell." He notes that the renovation work will include an expansion of the lobby to two stories and the creation of 32 luxury suites that will reduce the hotel's total rooms to 139.
Designed by Group One Architects of Boston, the revamped, Hilton-branded property will also include a new exterior façade and pool area along with upgraded landscaping. "The way we looked at it is that it would cost just as much to build a new hotel but it would take longer," Karam says. The hotel will be managed by Saunders Hotel Group, a family-owned and -operated hospitality firm in Boston.
