Westchester County executive Andrew Spano says the five-day amateur sporting event, which will be held from July 24 through July 29, 2007, will draw between 10,000 to 20,000 athletes, as well as their families, friends and coaches to the county. State officials say the Empire State Summer Games is estimated to generate an economic impact from $10 million to $12 million for the local economy.
Spano says the event will positively impact the county's economy and bring added business to county hotels, restaurants, retail stores and recreational venues. "Hosting the games will also be a shot in the arm for tourism and economic development as visitors discover the many cultural and recreational sites here in Westchester."
The games, which will include 27 Olympic-style sports, will primarily be conducted at area college facilities such as Iona College in New Rochelle, Manhattanville College in Purchase, College of New Rochelle, SUNY Purchase and Pace University's Pleasantville and Briarcliff campuses. This year the games will be held in Rochester from July 26 through July 30.
