PLYMOUTH, MA-John Iredale, president of Karsten Co. in East Weymouth, has acquired the former Revere Copper and Brass factory site along Water Street for $2 million. He plans to construct 30 townhouse units on the 1.6-acre waterfront parcel once zinc, petroleum and asbestos is removed from about 1,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil by the town.
As part of the deal, the town hired a firm to demolish the old factory buildings and clear up the contaminated soil. The sale is expected to be finalized in May once the cleanup is completed.
Iredale tells GlobeSt.com that he plans to begin construction possibly by early June with completion slated for the summer of 2007. He adds that he should have plans ready for submission to the town's permitting boards within the next two months.
