Hines isn't commenting on the departure of Philip Lewis, who stepped down at the end of the year. Hines' executive vice president Michael Topham, though, has absorbed the extra duties, the company confirmed.
Lewis joined Hines as a non-executive consultant in March 2000 and became executive chairman for the UK in 2002. Prior to joining Hines, he was CEO for Safestore Plc. and Milner Estates Plc., where he spent 27 years until its sale in 1999. The leading exec is non-executive director for Drivers Jonas and a Chartered Surveyor. He also was chairman of the London Board of Sport England and former president of the British Council of Shopping Centres.
Topham, a 30-year employee of Hines' ranks, started the London office in 1991, going on to expand the European inroad to nine offices in France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Poland and the UK. Hines Europe, headquartered in London, has completed 10 projects totaling more than 4.5 million sf [421,000 sm] and is developing another 13 projects, representing more than 5.4 million sf [501,000 sm] of class A office, retail, industrial and residential space.
