ATLANTA-IDI CEO Henry D. Gregory has promoted three of his top lieutenants, naming Timothy J. Gunter president of the locally based industrial firm. Gunter moves up from executive vice president and chief operations officer. He helped Gregory form IDI in 1989.

David R. Birdwell, senior vice president and chief financial officer, has been tapped to fill Gunter's slot as COO and senior vice president. Birdwell also joined the firm in 1989. Linda D. Booker, vice president and controller, has been promoted to vice president and chief financial officer. Booker has been with IDI since 1995.

Before co-founding IDI, Gunter was vice president of sales for Australia-based L.J. Hooker. He previously served in executive positions with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. where he was involved with acquisition and joint-venture projects, according to Gregory.

Birdwell's promotion follows his 1995 promotion when he advanced to CFO from controller. He previously held executive posts at locally based Childress Klein Properties, Trammell Crow Co and in the real estate services group at Arthur Young and Co.

Booker is responsible for IDI's financial operations and for the company's financial planning and forecasting. Prior to joining IDI, Booker was a manager in MetLife's real estate investments group. She also was an auditor for KMPG Peat Marwick before moving to MetLife.

Gregory says the promotions are part of a management succession plan IDI is implementing in phases to prepare for his eventual retirement. "With these promotions, we have a strong senior management team in place to continue growing IDI," Gregory tells GlobeSt.com. "These and other changes, such as the opening of our Philadelphia development office last year, will allow IDI to capitalize on opportunities through our diversified business model."
