Executive Watch

Perspective

Jonathan A. Schein - President & CEO - Real Estate Media - GlobeSt.com1/17/06: As always, the beginning of a new year brings out a multitude of economic prognosticators spewing opinions on how well the year will go. Of course, there is always the accompanying asterisked commentary that excludes from the prediction, "terrorist attacks, environmental calamity and other unforeseen circumstances." So how does one use this information to read the economy? Like politics, economics is local. How are your neighbors doing? Is the industry they're involved in up or down? How are the retailers faring in your community? Are there more closings than openings? It's all pretty simple; take a look around and you'll gain more information than you can from the endless chatter of economic experts. Besides, this will give you more time to focus on other endless chatter like that of the November elections.
