McCourt, owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, will reportedly use the proceeds from that sale to pay off a loan he took out two years ago to buy the team. McCourt bought the Dodgers with about $125 million in loans from News America. He backed the loans with the South Boston property. McCourt did not return calls to his Boston office made by GlobeSt.com.

Unhappy with the slow pace of development on the South Boston waterfront, the city sent a letter to McCourt earlier this month stating that it would not renew McCourt's permits to park cars on the site after the permits expire in three years. The tactic was similar to one used last year that helped force the sale of Fan Pier by the Pritzker family.
