VICTORVILLE, CA-Southern California Logistics Airport has opened a new 67,500-sf aircraft hangar that is leased to Pratt & Whitney. The new building, which Pratt & Whitney will use for aircraft maintenance and repair, will house a variety of airplanes, offices and aircraft and engine service shops.Airport officials say that Pratt & Whitney selected SCLA as the site for a new international program that involves repairing and upgrading aircraft for Russia's commercial airline companies. In addition to housing operations for the Russian aircraft program, the hangar is being considered as a facility for other Pratt & Whitney programs.According to Terry Caldwell, chairman of the airport authority and a City of Victorville City Council member, the new hangar further extends the range of services that the airport can offer to airline, leasing and finance companies as SCLA markets itself as a "one-stop-shop to the airline industry." Pratt & Whitney joins a list of aviation service and maintenance companies located at SCLA including Boeing, General Electric and Leading Edge Aviation Services.SCLA is also in the process of building a second hangar, which will accommodate an A-380 aircraft, and will total 100,000 sf. The second hangar is targeted for maintenance, repair and overhaul operations by LibertyWest and is anticipated to be completed during the first quarter of this year.Southern California Logistics Airport, the former George Air Force Base, is a 5,000-acre multimodal transportation center and business complex. It features on-site US Customs operations and has been designated both a Foreign Trade Zone and a Local Agency Military Base Recovery Act Zone by the federal government.
