ATLANTA-Miller-Gallman Developers, a locally based firm recognized nationally for its historic rehabilitations throughout Atlanta and the Southeast, has broken ground on its newest shelter venture within the 25-year-old Castleberry Hill district. The $8.5-million Fair & Walker will be Castleberry Hill's largest development.

Four buildings, predominantly townhome-style designed, will make up the project. The townhome units will have live/work potential with a storefront appearance on the ground floor, a representative for the developer tells GlobeSt.com.

Once a bustling industrial center, the Castleberry Historic District is now the city's newest vibrant art district, with restaurants, coffee houses and a growing list of art galleries. When developed in the 1980s, Castleberry Hill was Atlanta's first and largest loft community. The area now claims more than 900 residents occupying more than 500 lofts, according to Miller-Gallman representatives. The development site is less than a mile from CNN Center and Philips Arena.

Among Miller-Gallman's development credentials are the redevelopment of nearly the entire city block of Glen Iris next to City Hall East, including the Glen Iris Lofts, Troy-Peerless Lofts and Ponce Springs Lofts. The company has also developed A&P lofts, Whitehall Mill in nearby Athens, Swift & Co., West Lumber Lofts, 330 Peters St. and Castleberry Row.
