Situated on the River Walk, La Mansion del Rio is a 337-room hotel that opened its doors in 1968. Just across a footbridge spanning the River Walk, the companion property, Watermark Hotel & Spa, is a two-year-old 99-room luxury hotel. Most recently, Conde Nast Traveler feted it as one of the top 10 hotels in the US and among the top 50 in the world. Both properties have consistently ranked among the top 10 in the state for RevPAR results, according to Omni.

If the deal is consummated, Omni will have three San Antonio hotels. The other is located along Interstate Highway 10 near Wurzbach Road. Statewide, Omni currently owns and operates eight hotels, and is in the planning stages for another in Fort Worth.

As part of the deal, La Mansion del Rio chief executive Patrick Kennedy will retain ownership of all trademark rights relating to the Watermark Hotel and Spa and its restaurant, Pesca on the River. Kennedy plans to pursue an expansion of the brand. "The luxury travel segment continues to flourish and we see opportunities in mixed use development of luxury projects that include hotel, residential and spa components," says Kennedy.
