The 66,000-sf maintenance facility, which will be located near Colorado Springs Airport, will replace a temporary leased facility in Colorado Springs that SkyWest has been using since 2004. The new hangar will be built by Hensel Phelps Construction Co. and should be completed in early 2007.

Marissa Snow, a spokeswoman for SkyWest, tells GlobeSt.com that the new facility will be capable of housing at least six regional jets compared to the current facility, which only has room for two to three aircraft carriers.

"It will make it more efficient for mechanics to service more planes each day," says Snow. Execs of the airline, which employs 55 mechanics and 32 support and administrative personnel in Colorado Springs, said the new facility will enable it to increase its daily maintenance schedule from about 11 planes to 17.
