Executive Watch

Perspective

Jonathan A. Schein - President & CEO - Real Estate Media - GlobeSt.com2/7/06: The President has just presented his fiscal budget, which amounts to a staggering $2.77 trillion! Regardless of whether or not one agrees with the programs chosen for increased--or for that matter, decreased--funding, this is an unbelievable sum that is simply out of control. When Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan ran under the fiscally conservative platform that the federal government was simply too big, they were often cast as extremists, out of step with mainstream America. Today, they look as moderate as they come. The real issue is whether or not the House of Representatives, which has the power of the purse, will put principle above electioneering. So-called extremist Tip O'Neill uttered the famous words, "All politics is local." If his dictum is correct, not only will this budget pass, but it will most likely be even bigger.
