The site sold for an undisclosed price. The YMCA has opened a branch in the property. The sale of the 537 Pleasant St. building, which served as the activity center for the campus, leaves four buildings containing 500,000 sf on the campus available for sale, lease or build-to-suit, a spokesman for the Conshohocken, PA-based seller tells GlobeSt.com. Preferred Real Estate Investments is planning to build 300 units of residential housing on 150 acres at the 261-acre site pending zoning approvals, the spokesman adds.
Jeanine Achin, associate executive director with the Attleboro YMCA, says the organization has been interested in purchasing the Activity Center for about 10 years, ever since Texas Instruments outsourced the center's operations. "We approached Texas Instruments in the past to run the activity center so when it came time to sell, we were in the front lines to purchase it."
"Having the YMCA take over this facility is a home run for Attleboro," says Michael G. O'Neill, CEO of Preferred Real Estate Investments in a statement. "The deal will keep the facility open and provide an excellent amenity to the employees on site and the community."
Preferred acquired the property in December 2004 and shortly afterwards signed a lease with Texas Instruments for a new 220,000-sf, build-to-suit data and technology center and a 10-year lease on 248,000 sf for the company's on-campus manufacturing facility. Preferred also recently signed two commercial leases with New Stream, which will lease the site's wastewater treatment plant for five years, and the BOC Group, which leased the CSX-spur rail yard building for 10 years.
