"We've wanted to be part of this community for more than 25 years," Blake Nordstrom, president of Nordstrom Inc., says in a statement announcing the openings. Richard S. Sokolov, president and chief operating officer of Indianapolis-based Simon Property Group, said there would be "significant redevelopment at all three properties" to add space for restaurants and specialty stores.
The two-story Nordstrom store in Burlington would encompass 144,000 sf and is scheduled to open in spring 2008. The South Shore Plaza store will contain three-levels with 150,000 sf and will open in the spring 2009, while the Northshore Mall will offer two-levels and 144,000 sf of shopping area when it opens in the spring of 2010. Filenes is vacating space as a result of Federated Department Stores' $17-billion merger with May Department Stores. Federated plans to close seven New England properties, including Filenes' flagship store at Downtown Crossing. Several other Filenes' properties, including the Emerald Mall in North Attleboro, will be converted into Macy's.
