2/21/06: It's hard these days to detect bipartisanship in the nation's capital. But there's a solid bridge across the aisle on the question of the White House selling the port-operation contract to a company in the United Arab Emirates. (For the record, these six ports are in three so-called red states and three blue states.) The concern here is not a xenophobic worry over which foreign country operates our ports. Rather, it's a matter of common sense. No non-American company should operate our ports. To paraphrase Rep. Peter King (R-NY), if this were a contract to operate our airports, this situation would never be tolerated. King, of course, is not just a congressman. He's also chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, and we should heed his warning.
