The company's other foray into the Middle East is in Kuwait, where it has restaurants in Kuwait City and Salmiya. "Ruby Tuesday continues its efforts to expand its restaurants into increasingly significant and important market areas of that part of the world," said Mark Ingram, Ruby Tuesday's president of franchising, in a statement.

Ruby Tuesday operates 825 restaurants in 42 states and abroad. Overall this year executives plan to open 50 company-owned restaurants and 40 franchisee-operated units, mostly in the US.

Of the chain's existing company-owned restaurants, same-store sales increased 1.9% during its latest quarter, with same-store sales at Ruby Tuesday's freestanding restaurants, which represent approximately 80% of the units, increasing 2.6%. Same-store sales at franchise restaurants decreased 0.2% during the quarter.

Ruby Tuesday execs also reported net income of $17.4 million, or 28 cents per diluted share, compared to net income of $19.7 million, 30 cents per diluted share, for same period last year. Thirty-five company-owned Ruby Tuesday restaurants were opened during the quarter, along with 18 franchise locations.
