Park Place Fort Lauderdale, located at the intersection of SR 84 and Interstate 95, will contain 179 garage units ranging from 580 sf to 1,800 sf, with for-sale prices starting at $160,000. Units are designed not just for cars, but also for "wine, furniture, art, anything an owner wants to store," Buckley says. Units here and in North Miami will each contain a bathroom and be climate-controlled and self-accessible with a programmable garage door. Both facilities will have 24/7 manned security.
Park Place North Miami will be located at Biscayne Boulevard and 142nd Street. It will contain 224 units ranging from 500 sf to 1,800 sf, and prices begin at $140,000 a unit. "There is a huge void in the storage market," Buckley says, "and that combines in South Florida with the seasonality factor for many residents who live here only in winter and need storage for when they're away."
Locally based Galleria of Fine Homes is marketing units in the Florida facilities, which are expected to reach completion by the end of second-quarter 2007. These are seen as prototypes for locations throughout the country. "If we're as successful as we think we'll be," Buckley says, "we plan to build facilities in Orlando, Las Vegas, Scottsdale, AZ, and on Long Island, NY, near JFK airport."
