GARDEN GROVE, CA-Evergreen Development of Phoenix has completed its 200th store for the Deerfield, IL-based Walgreens drug chain, a 14,820-sf store at 10840 W. Katella Ave. Walgreens is leasing the site from Allied Retail Partners of Newport Beach.

The new Garden Grove location part of Walgreens' plan to open 475 stores in 2006, notes Evergreen principal Bruce Pomeroy. Evergreen is a developer of specialty, neighborhood and community shopping centers and freestanding retail stores in the Western US.

Southern California is one of the most active development sites in the country for Walgreens and Evergreen. The Phoenix-based company has 50 stores under development for Walgreens, with 16 of them in the Southland.

Evergreen built its first location for the Deerfield, IL-based drug store chain in 1988 in Mesa, AZ. Two years later, Evergreen developed one of the first free-standing Walgreens in the nation in Mesa.
