Dallas-based McCarthy Building Cos. Inc. will complete the improvements in the fall. "This is part of Bayport's overall capital development," says Michael McWay, president of McCarthy's Texas division. "The overall plan calls for a 20-year development. They're into the first year and a half."
McWay tells GlobeSt.com that the contractor's main task is to improve drainage and paving into Bayport. "We're also dealing with the entrance to Bayport by providing structures, paving and amenities," he adds.
McCarthy effectively is prepping the site for a new main terminal. As a result, infrastructure development will include grading, paving and stripping about 24 acres to support a container truck gate and adjacent container yard. A gate power substation and underground utilities will also be developed. When the work's done, the electrical and water system upgrades will support 16 buildings.
As part of the project, McCarthy also will relocate and upgrade the water main for the City of Pasadena. The second part of the development focuses on relocating more than a mile of the Port road and building connections to Todville Road.
