The company plans to move from its current Back Bay offices at 75 Arlington St. into its new headquarters around Oct. 1, according to Duncan Gilkey, who heads up leasing for the Design Center. Terms of that lease were not disclosed.
A spokesperson with Boston Beer Co. tells GlobeSt.com that the firm opted to move its headquarters not only because of a need for more space and a desire for a long-term lease, but because company officials were interested in relocating to an emerging neighborhood in the city. "One of our corporate interests is in moving into areas of the city that are up and coming." The spokesperson noted that in 1988, the firm took the same stance when it moved a brewery into the Jamaica Plain neighborhood that was in need of a major business tenant. The company currently occupies 26,500 sf on the fifth floor of 75 Arlington St. The relocation will add about 4,500 sf to the headquarters.
The beer maker, whose new offices are being designed by locally based Jung Brannen Associates Inc., will share the floor with apparel and footwear maker, Puma, which occupies about 20,000 sf. The center, which was purchased last year for $96 million by Vornado Realty Trust, is about 98% occupied by tenants that include Bang & Olufsen, the Furniture Guild and Brookline Village Antiques.
