NEWTON, MA-The city will get its first kosher strip mall when a pair of local business owners open an expanded bakery, meat market and deli along Commonwealth Avenue. Susan Davis Bosich, co-owner of the businesses with husband and chef Ricardo Bosich, tells GlobeSt.com that the couple decided to open the kosher strip mall in about 28,000 sf of space because of the increasing demand for kosher goods in their neighborhood.
The city is home to a large number of Orthodox and Conservative Jews who adhere to Jewish dietary laws that require them to consume only goods that are certified as kosher. "The community needs something like this in the area," Bosich says.
Plans call for the expansion of the Bodavi Bakers and nearly century-old Gordon & Alperin meat market, which will be renamed the Centre Market. A new deli will open next to the bakery after Passover. The couple plans to open a kosher pizzeria called Red Pepper, along the same Commonwealth Avenue block in June.
