WEST DUBLIN, CA-Windstar Communities, the residential division of San Diego-based Nexus Properties, has acquired the rights to develop a transit-oriented project at a proposed new BART station called West Dublin/Pleasanton Station. Windstar says its plan is to develop a mixed-use project including housing units and retail space. The new BART station will be called West Dublin/Pleasanton. It comprises 14 acres split between a site in Pleasanton and a site in Dublin, each of them about seven acres.Windstar is planning a mixture of high-density luxury residential units, both for sale and for rent, as well as the retail and a hotel. The Pleasanton property, which is vacant land, lies between Interstate-580 and the Stonebridge Mall on Stonebridge Mall Road. The Dublin site, also vacant land, is bounded by Golden Gate Drive, St. Patrick's Way and Interstate-580.BART plans to construct the West Dublin/Pleasanton Station in the median of Interstate-580, directly between the two sites. The sites will be connected by pedestrian bridges over Interstate 580.Windstar expects to break ground on these sites in the first half of 2007. It has named McLarand Vasquez Emsiek & Partners of Oakland to design the residential portion of the project, which will consist of studios and units of one to three bedrooms. Windstar, which was established in July 2003, owns and manages multifamily projects in California. The company has more than 3,000 units in various phases of development and entitlement. Among its projects is the Stadium Lofts development in Anaheim's Platinum Triangle, which broke ground in late 2004.
