BOSTON-Terminal B at Logan International Airport will have a facelift. The terminal, which houses American Airlines, will undergo more than $50 million in renovations over the next year that will add a 15,000 sf food court, 14 retail stores, a new baggage screening room and improved access for American Eagle flights.
No new tenants have yet been selected for the 31,000 sf in renovated space, says John Whalen, director of retail operations for BAA Boston Inc., which is building the space under a contract with the Massachusetts Port Authority. "We have a lot of interest but we're still trying to pick and choose." Construction on the retail and restaurant space should be completed by the summer of 2007.
Two restaurants planned for the terminal will be "high end" Whalen adds, including one that will feature a pub-type atmosphere. The retail space will include a mix of high end retail, duty free shops and newsstands, he says.
The improvements are all part of a 10-year renovation plan by the Massachusetts Port Authority. It includes last month's opening of a $3.5-million food court at Terminal C, the new $500-million Terminal A serving Delta Air Lines and $410-million in renovation work to Terminal E, which handles international flights.
