CBRE's president of Valuation & Advisory Services Douglas Haney tells GlobeSt.com the company has been courting Synder for nearly five years. "He has an excellent practice; he does work all over the country and has a great reputation," Haney says. "We finally made him an attractive deal."

Haney declined to get specific about the package CBRE put together to lure Snyder, but it's clear that the compensation package included substantial consideration for his 12-year-old business, the Synder Co. In addition to the money, Synder is gaining time, says Haney.

"When you have independent practice, isn't just about winning appraisal work, it's about managing people, receivables, equipment and education costs," Haney says. "The long and short of it is you don't have any time to yourself; the platform that CB provides will allow Larry to increase his own personal income without the management task component, which just eats you up over time."

Synder tells GlobeSt.com that he's looking forward to winning larger assignments than his independent firm could manage and spending more time with his family than he could when he was a business owner as well as an appraiser. "I have a wife and three kids and we love to travel," he says. "I'm hoping this frees me up to do a little bit more of that."

For CBRE, it fills a noticeable void. "We have one of the largest hotel and gaming brokerage businesses in the country but our hotel and gaming appraisal practice had no expertise on the gaming side," Haney says. "He's a great addition to the platform; he has a strong clientele and we haven't been able to do as much in gaming as we would like."

Snyder founded his company in 1994. Appraisal assignments have included the MGM Grand, Venetian, New York New York and Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas; the Silver Legacy, Atlantis Hotel Casino and Boomtown Casino & Hotel in Reno; and others in Illinois, Missouri, Louisiana and Mississippi. Snyder's experiences also extends to hotels, motels, restaurants, retail centers, offices, race tracks, medical properties, self-storage facilities, industrial properties and residential developments.
