Halford, who has family ties to the Bixby Land Co., will succeed Terrance Dickens, who is retiring after nine years at the helm of Bixby. Halford's great-great grandfather was the CEO at his new firm, which is one of the oldest land development and investment companies in California.
Halford has been a member of the Bixby Land board of directors for 10 years. Halford plans to position the company as "an active, nimble, high profile player that moves quickly."
Although his new firm is known as a developer and investor with a large portfolio, Halford says, "I want people to think of Bixby Land Company as more than a top developer and investor; I want them to watch for what we do next."
Halford left the Irvine Co. with an agreement that he would not immediately announce where he was going. He began his commercial real estate career in 1986 at Transpacific Development Co., based in Torrance, where he spent seven years before joining the Irvine Co.As president of the office properties division, Halford was one of a group of division presidents overseeing the office, apartment, retail, resort and land sale divisions of the company within the Investment Properties Group.
Bixby Land Co. was founded in 1896, starting out by subdividing its land holdings for farming and ranching. The company today operates a portfolio composed primarily of industrial and office properties.
