Sanofi-aventis, the result of a 2004 merger between French pharmaceutical companies Sanofi-Synthelabo and Aventis, now has its Southwest research and development operation at 1580 E. Hanley Blvd. in Tucson. Its development site is at the intersection of Rancho Vistoso Boulevard and Innovation Park Drive.
Groundbreaking is scheduled for first quarter, but move-in has not yet been determined. "This won't be just a throw-up office building," Steve Corney, managing principal in Phoenix for the Staubach Co., tells GlobeSt.com. "It's a complex R&D facility. Once they start construction, it'll take about 16 months to get it up." He and Staubach's Pat Williams and John Wyss represented Sanofi-aventis while the seller, Vistoso Partners LLC in Tempe, which developed Innovation Park, was self-represented.
Corney says Sanofi-aventis spent close to a year searching the Tucson metro area for the right property. The fact that Innovation Park has many existing biotech firms was one deciding factor in the location, he adds.
