"This new facility provides us with a unified Department of Public Safety, Airfield, Airport and Emergency Operations Center which will effectively manage daily operations as well as emergencies," Jan Collmer, DFW International Airport board chairman, says in a press release. The center, housing 84 employees, has 2,785 sf dedicated to the airport operations center; 3,150 sf for the emergency operations center, 980 sf for airfield operations and 825 sf for fire and police dispatching.

The FAA awarded a $3.8-million grant to the project. The DFW communications center monitors more than 10,000 radio transmissions weekly while the airfield operations center manages 15 aircraft alerts per month, fields 1,685 telephone calls per day and aids in monitoring the Storm Sentry Weather Radar system, terminal paging, satellite and closed-circuit TV and radio, fire alarms and airfield lighting.
