Blessings will move into the location within two months. "This was a highly specialized refrigeration building and we were fortunate to find the buyer," says Bill DiVito, vice president of CB Richard Ellis Tucson LLC. He, John Slattery and Robin K. Lamont, also with CBRE, represented the seller, Tucson-based US Foodservice Inc., in the direct deal for the 1045 S. Highland Ave. property.
Built in the late 1960s, the building was renovated and expanded in the early 1990s. It had been on the market awhile because of its specialization. "We used a very targeted approach to selling this building," DiVito tells GlobeSt.com. "It is shell on the outside, but on the inside there's drainage and slab differential as well as huge, refrigerated ice storage areas. It's a machine so you need to find someone in that business who can use something like this."
While the original plan was to target growers and distributors in Mexico, DiVito acknowledges he was pleased with Blessings as the buyer. "They were distributing straight through to the East Coast," he adds. "Now they'll process here in Tucson and distribute from here, which will be more efficient and less cumbersome than doing it all in Mexico."
