ANAHEIM, CA-Master planner Lennar has started construction on the first phase of its 54-acre A-Town combination of more than 3,800 housing units and 200,000 sf of commercial and retail space in the Platinum Triangle. The development will include 14 residential multifamily towers of up to 38 stories.
Designed to be transit-oriented and pedestrian-friendly, the A-Town development is part of an economic revitalization zone planned to replace the aging industrial buildings adjacent to Angel Stadium and other city landmarks, notes Richard Knowland, SVP of Lennar. The two parcels of A-Town are generally bounded by Katella and Orangewood avenues, the I-5 Freeway and portions of State College Boulevard and and Angel Stadium.
The first phase of Lennar's project is a parcel of 40.6 acres that is planned for 2,681 housing units, up to 11 towers, and approximately 150,000 sf of commercial and retail uses. When it is completed the project is expected to include a commercial, retail and dining district that will connect Katella Avenue with Gene Autry Way.
The initial construction will include streets and a transit station, with construction of the housing scheduled to begin later this year. Also included as part of the development are plans for public parks, outdoor event spaces, gardens and play areas.
The A-Town project is part of overall Anaheim Platinum Triangle plans for up to 9,175 housing units, five million sf of office space and more than two million sf of other commercial uses. The land owned by Lennar accounts for more than 50% of all the residential units that Anaheim city officials have approved for the Platinum Triangle.
