MIDDLETOWN, CT-xpedx, an International Paper company, will relocate its sales and warehouse operations from West Haven, CT later this year to a new 85,000-sf build-to-suit property at 220 Timber Ridge Rd. here. Greg Bowen, general manager of the xpedx West Haven Division, says the firm will be leasing the building from MF DiScala & Co. Inc. of Norwalk, CT. The company currently owns 51 Railroad Ave., a 35,000-sf warehouse building in West Haven. It is selling that property and has hired OR&L of Branford, CT to find a buyer.
Joseph Breault, executive vice president of MF DiScala, says that construction on the building here will start immediately. The facility will house new sales, customer service and warehouse employees in addition to its existing workforce in West Haven for the firm that is a major marketer and distributor of printing products and graphic supplies and equipment. The company has more than 7,000 employees in 250 locations in the US and Mexico.
"This is another important step in our customer and corporate strategy for the greater New England region," says Michael Feenan, New England Group vice president for xpedx, which is headquartered in Loveland, OH. Last year, the firm relocated and expanded its distribution facility within Portland, ME.
"The new Middletown facility and larger staff will enable us to have deeper inventories across more product lines, a better location and greater operating efficiencies," Bowen adds. He says the firm, which currently employs 28 workers at its West Haven property, has long-range plans to have 50 employees at its Middletown building. xpedx expects to take occupancy of its Middletown property by the late fall of this year.
