The department, which occupies almost all of the 137,000 sf of commercial space in the 47-story building at 250 Washington St., will remain in floors two through 10. "This is a win-win for the Department of Health and the owner," says Brad McGill, vice president with Spaulding & Slye, a member of the Jones Lang LaSalle group. McGill says the location gives the state health department a well located, large block of space with access to public transportation.

Terms of the lease were not disclosed but a source close to the transaction says the state paid close to the low $30-per-sf going rate for similar space in the Financial District area. The building, situated along the Freedom Trail near Faneuil Hall and Downtown Crossing, also is home to several condominiums and retail shops.

Craig Deitelzweig, vice president of development and associated council of Lawrence Ruben Co., which owns the building, did not return repeated phone calls from GlobeSt.com seeking comment. McGill and Spaulding & Slye vice president Bill Motley, along with assistant vice president Jennifer Daniels, negotiated the transaction on behalf of the building owner. The state was self-represented.
