The company, owned by Glass Incorporated International, had considered other locations for the new manufacturing location, including Phoenix and Casa Grande, AZ. The final call went to a 78-acre asset at 8500 S. Rita Rd. "I think they were sincere about their interest in the facility. It was a highly specialized facility and one that they understood," explains Robert Glaser, industrial specialist and principal of Picor Commercial Real Estate Services in Tucson. He and Picor principal Russell Hall represented the Oakdale, MN-based seller, Imation Corp.

Glaser says Glass Fiber will make some building improvements before moving in at the end of this year. The extra land, he points out, will be ideal for a future expansion.

Glaser says Imation had the building on the market several months and received a handful of offers. He tells GlobeSt.com that the seller, which manufactures and distributes removable storage data products, put the building on the market because it was consolidating. "From their standpoint, the facility was antiquated," he adds. "Also, people aren't using tape drives as much as they had in the past so they didn't need quite as much space."
