FOXBOROUGH, MA-The owners of the New England Patriots have filed a formal outline of their plans to build a $300-million complex adjacent to the team's home stadium. The proposed Patriots Place complex, billed as a "mega-mall for men," will feature a Bass Pro Shop along with restaurants and entertainment venues. Another component will add meeting and convention space to the project.

The plans were filed by the Robert Kraft organization with the state Executive Office of Environmental Affairs. A proposed building, located next to Gillette Stadium's main gates, will include function space that can be used by corporate tailgaters or rented out year round for corporate events, a Patriots spokesman tells GlobeSt.com. Plans also call for a 200-room hotel and a 5,000-car parking lot, which will expand the potential for conventions and other events at Gillette Stadium.

"This is just a conceptual plan for what Patriot Place can be," the spokesman says, noting that plans for the 1.1-million-sf complex remain "very fluid right now. This is a concept that has been growing for years but we're getting closer to a more formal announcement." The spokesman says that once the project's major retailers are locked in more formal plans for the project will be released.

Plans for the 265-acre development also include day care and spa facilities, a 16-screen theater, medical center, a Patriots museum and broadcast studios. Foxborough town planner Mark Resnick tells GlobeSt.com town officials are expected to approve the construction, with permitting approvals likely to be completed by the end of the year. The town's Planning Board and Permanent Building and Construction Committee will then review the plans, including the stadium's on-site wastewater treatment and water reuse systems.
