The gift will transform the Institute from one focused on graduate and continuing education courses for real estate professionals to a broader curriculum including a four-year undergraduate degree program in real estate. "It enables us to develop a real estate undergraduate program, the first of its kind in New Jersey and one of only 60 or so in the entire country," says Don Moliver, director of the 14-year-old Institute.

"We already offer courses in real estate on both the graduate and certificate levels," Moliver says. "So the gift will enable us to reach the widest audience possible in terms of providing a real estate education."

"We wanted to make a substantial donation to our industry," says Jay I. Kislak, chairman of J.I. Kislak Inc. "Our contribution is one way of giving back to the profession."

Monmouth University expects to have its major in real estate program ready by the fall of 2007. According to Moliver, a curriculum will be developed including courses on everything from development and construction to finance, eminent domain and real estate law. The major is being designed to educate future developers, lawyers and corporate real estate executives rather than realtors, according to university officials.
