BOSTON-Apple Computer will present several new design plans to the Back Bay Architectural Commission today, hoping to win the board's approval as the first step toward launching the firm's first store here. The computer maker is hoping to demolish a 16,587-sf building at 815 Boylston St. across from the Prudential Center and replace it with a three-story, 22,116-sf structure.

In recent filings with the city, Apple proposed designs that appear to draw on the façade of existing buildings. At a meeting with Architectural Commission members in March, Apple presented plans for a glass-front building but board members balked at that proposal, saying they would like to see the façade preserved or replicated.

The commission must approve building plans if they involve the demolition of an existing building in areas of the Back Bay under its jurisdiction. Stephen V. Miller of the Boston law firm of McDermott, Quilty & Miller LLP, which represents Apple, did not return calls from GlobeSt.com seeking comment.
