Gap is targeting upscale shopping destinations with its Forth & Towne concept, which is aimed at upscale women, because L.A. women "have a high affinity for style, fashion and trends," according to Gary Muto, president of Forth & Towne. The company's new Los Angeles area stores are slated for Westfield Century City Shopping Center and the Oaks Shopping Center in Thousand Oaks in September, followed by Westfield Topanga Shopping Center in October.

Muto calls Los Angeles "a perfect market for Forth & Towne." The Los Angeles stores will add to a list that includes Forth & Towne locations at the Palisades Center Mall in West Nyack, NY; Algonquin Commons in Algonquin, IL; Westfield Fox Valley, Aurora, IL; Westfield Old Orchard, Skokie, IL; and Woodfield Mall, Schaumburg, IL.

The Oaks is located in Thousand Oaks, just north of Los Angeles, and serves a number of affluent communities including Calabasas, Malibu, Westlake Village and Agoura Hills. Westfield Topanga in the San Fernando Valley is in the midst of a large-scale redevelopment project, set to be completed in the fall, and Westfield Century City recently completed a redevelopment project bringing new retail, dining and entertainment options to the center.

Gap Inc. announced plans earlier this year to open approximately 10 Forth & Towne stores in five new markets this fall: Atlanta, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco/San Jose and Seattle. The new concept debuted last August and consists of five locations: Palisades Center Mall, West Nyack, NY; Algonquin Commons, Algonquin, IL; Westfield Fox Valley, Aurora, IL; Westfield Old Orchard, Skokie, IL; and Woodfield Mall, Schaumburg, IL.
