SIMI VALLEY, CA-This community north of Los Angeles is getting its first Gold's Gym, with the fitness center chain signing a deal for a 50,000-sf space at the Simi Valley Plaza, according to Lee & Associates. Ken Shishido, principal and director of retail services at the Lee & Associates-LA North/Ventura office, reports that Gold's signed a 15-year, $10-million lease for its first facility in the Simi Valley.

The site is at 1357 E. Los Angeles Ave. in the Simi Valley Plaza, including both indoor and outdoor space. Slated to open in September, the new gym will offer co-ed facilities and will feature fitness equipment and services including group exercise, personal training and the core weight lifting tradition of Gold's.

Shishido represented Gold's Gym. The landlords, Wyoming Partners LLC and Simi Valley Plaza LLC, represented themselves.

William Banos, VP and COO of Gold's Gym, comments that the Simi Valley area was lacking a health club like the new Gold's, which will feature modern touches like cardio machines with televisions and a movie theater with 120 workout machines. In addition to the fitness facilities and services for its customers, the gym "will cater to parents" with the gym's combination indoor and outdoor child care center, Banos says.

Gold's Gym, established in 1965 at its original location in Venice, has grown to more than 600 facilities in 43 states and 25 countries. Along with its geographic expansion, the chain has expanded the scope of its gyms to include group exercise, personal training, cardiovascular equipment, spinning, Pilates and yoga in addition to weight-lifting equipment.
