BOSTON-The Boston Redevelopment Authority has selected a local development team to build a 45,739-sf, six-story residential building and artist's gallery in Boston's South End.New Boston Ventures LLC and PEG Properties will team up to turn the 263 and 265 Northampton St. property into 37 lofts, one-bedroom and artist duplexes ranging in size from 779 sf to 1,113 sf.
The $14.2-million complex will include seven affordable units and a second-floor artist's gallery. Plans also call for the creation of a common outdoor area that will feature a zen roof garden, low-water consumption plantings, exterior artist work space and an outdoor kitchen, in addition to decked areas to be shared by residents of both the redeveloped building and an adjacent parcel.
The project, which will be built on a city-owned property in the growing artist neighborhood known as SoWa, will be designed by architects Domenech, Hicks & Krockmalnic, Inc. with landscape design by CBA Landscape Architects of Somerville. Officials from New Boston Ventures and PEG Properties could not be reached for comment in time for GlobeSt.com's deadline.
