The stadium itself will also be a little taller--about 20 feet--under plans developed by 360 Architecture, a Kansas City, MO-based firm that specializes in sports venues. The new details were released by officials of the NJSEA, a state agency; officials of both teams declined further comment.
The new stadium is slated to replace the existing 30-year-old Giants Stadium, which the Jets have shared for the past 20 years. The teams' deal with the NJSEA also calls for new training complexes; the Giants' will be on-site here, while the Jets will be built in Florham Park. The new stadium will be co-funded by the two teams.
The new stadium project, which will also include more than 500,000 sf of ancillary sports-related space, still faces several steps before ground is broken. The NJSEA itself gets first crack at the proposal, after which it must be reviewed and approved by the New Jersey DEP and the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission.
