Freshman Village, a two-building project, is being developed to satisfy a mandatory on-campus residency program for freshmen at the Tuscaloosa campus. Freshman Village is scheduled to open in fall 2007. Two buildings have been demolished to make way for Freshman Village, which will be managed by the university.

A spokesman familiar with the project tells GlobeSt.com that Allen & O'Hara's record and past experience most likely helped in the final decision-making process for the heavily chased contract. Allen & O'Hara has just completed a 753-bed freshman residence hall on the university's Birmingham campus.

Ward, Scott, Vernon Architects of Tuscaloosa is the architect of record while WTW Architects from Pittsburgh is the consulting architect. Capstone Building Corp. in Birmingham is the general contractor.
