Under terms of the lease deal Borders will take 24,000 sf of floor space over two levels to become the second largest Borders store in Boston. The store will also include a Seattle's Best Coffee café and a Paperchase Shop, which sells notebooks, journals, greeting cards and wrapping paper. Citibank will open its first retail financial center in the city in 6,000 sf of space.
The two tenants will share space in the mixed-use building with retailers that include Victoria's Secret, Filene's Basement, Guess and Swedish retailer H&M, which recently opened its first flagship store in Boston in the Newbry.
Andrew LaGrega, a principal in The Wilder Cos., which oversees leasing for Beacon Capital Partners, which owns the property, tells GlobeSt.com that a final lease on 1,200 sf is expected to be signed next week, putting the retail component at full occupancy just 18 months after marketing began. The Newbry's more than 400,000 sf of office space has been filled for the past year, LaGrega says.
