Commenting on the opening, White Plains Mayor Joseph Delfino says, "White Plains is excited about this opening, and we are eager to have Wal-Mart joining our corporate community. Wal-Mart has established itself in communities throughout the United States and the world, and now residents and visitors to our city will be able to enjoy the low prices and large selection for which Wal-Mart is known."
Steve Mitchell, director of design for Wal-Mart's North Central division, notes that the White Plains store is an example of how Wal-Mart's concept can fit into an urban setting. "The store's contemporary design captures White Plains' downtown revitalization efforts and offers a product mix and layout to meet this local community's needs, while providing for a truly unique Wal-Mart shopping experience," he says.
The new store is down the street from a host of new mixed-use and high-rise residential projects, including City Center, Trump Tower at City Center and Renaissance Square, which is now under construction. The new Wal-Mart is also across the street from Ginsburg Development Companies LLC's The Pinnacle high-rise luxury condominium project, which is currently in the approval process.
