FLORHAM PARK, NJ-This community's zoning board has granted a variance to pave the way for the initial Life Time Fitness center in New Jersey. The 14-year-old company, based in Eden Prairie, MN, has 56 centers in 11 states to this point. The variance was granted for a 33-acre site once owned and occupied by Automatic Switch Co., which utilized it for office and manufacturing purposes.
According to Richard Traynor, an attorney for Life Time, ground is expected to be broken in the spring 2007. The location will be operational in approximately one year from groundbreaking.
The facility, which will be a new construction, will total some 110,000 sf. Included within the two-story building will be several gymnasiums, exercise and weight machine rooms, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a salon and spa, a café, a children's play area and an athletic supply shop.
The clearance to build the facility is Life Time's second attempt to get a location in the Garden State. An application earlier this year in the town of Parsippany failed to get clearance.
